Christmas On our Own

by Kristy
(Vancouver, Washington, USA)

My Husband and I have been living on our own since we were 15 and 16 years old, even homeless sometimes. Because of this we never were able to afford to buy Christmas gifts for each other.

Now we can afford to buy each other gifts, but we don't. We like having a giftless Christmas because it reminds us of how much we did not have, and how much we appreciate each other.

We take the money we would spend on gifts for each other, and buy something for someone in need.

Truly inspiring. I have been homeless with a small child. Now I'm blessed with a great husband, 4 kids and a wonderful home. Thank you for reminding me what it's all about... paying it forward with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Thank you!
by: Desiree' S

Thank you so much for this post. I was searching for fun Christmas traditions to start with my boyfriend this year and I came across your entry here. I also wasn't extremely fortunate growing up, but i DID always receive gifts from Santa at Christmas time ;0) (it was the one time of year me and my sisters got new things) However, i am truly considering this tradition..and maybe giving the money we would have spent on each other to homeless children or hungry people. Thank you for reminding me of what the holiday season is really about :0)
