Congratulations on Your Decision to Build An Online Web Business

If you've had a dream to build an online web business, but thought you didn't have the skills necessary... think again! You don't have to be a computer genius or an internet guru to build your own online business.

What you DO need is MOTIVATION and PASSION for a particular topic, hobby, skill, interest, item, etc.

Keep in mind that this is not a get rich quick program. Building a business takes time. The great thing about the internet though, is that there are very low overhead costs and you can work on your business when it suits you... you're the BOSS!

I personally used Site Build It! to build my online web business. It has all the tools and information you could possibly need to start building YOUR online business. 

Build An Online Web Business - Getting Started

Our first class is just around the corner. You are about to learn step by step how to build an online business. Don't worry about what you will build your site on just yet. I'll walk you through the discovery of your best Site Concept in the next couple of weeks. You might be surprised about how much you know and have the ability to build a business around.

To make your business building experience run more smoothly, please take the time to download Firefox if you don't already have it on your computer. It's free and will speed up many of the processes I will walk you through over the next 10 weeks! Also, I would assume most of you have Microsoft Office on your computers (you'll need the use of excel spreadsheets). If not, a good free alternative you can download is Open Office.

Build An Online Web Business - Step 1

At our first class we learned the fundamentals of building our online businesses.

  • You can't build an online business with offline mentality. Offline success depends on location; online success depends on information.

  • Content is King! Provide searchers with the information they are looking for. Write content with the best interests of your visitors in mind, content that will help build positive relationships with them. Also, write quality, keyword focused content that pleases the search engines. Research what information is being sought after online and what keywords are being used to search for that information.

  • Follow the C-T-P-M process to success. Take your time and complete each step carefully and purposefully before moving on. The first steps are the most important to the future success of your online business. Tortoise your way from C to M.

  • Write a list of topics you have a passion for, have experience with, have solutions for, have a talent for, etc. and then brainstorm associated keywords to determine if your niche is too broad, too narrow, or too competitive to build an online business around.


    HOMEWORK:

  • Write down a list of topics you know about, have a passion for, or have experience with. Narrow the list down to three by next class.

  • Read or watch Day 1 and 2 of the Action Guide.

  • Log into Brainstorm It! and have a look around. 


    • Build An Online Web Business - Step 2

    Our second class introduced us to SBI's powerful Brainstorm It! tool. It has the ability to reveal exactly what people are looking for and how often they are searching for it. It even gives us a glimpse into what competitor's provide and what content we'll need to provide to lead our online business to success.

    We also learned how to use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, Wordtracker Keyword Suggestion Tool, and Search It! to narrow down your keyword options before usingBrainstorm It! tool.

  • A Site Concept is the central unifying theme that every page of a site's content will relate to.

  • A Keyword or Keyword Phrase is a search term or descriptive word (or group of words) that people use to look for information online.

  • Brainstorm It! collects keyword data.

  • Your MKL - Master Keyword List stores the keyword data.

  • A Seed Word is a word we enter into Brainstorm It!

  • A Vertical Brainstorm returns keywords and keyword phrases with the seed word IN them.

  • A Lateral Brainstorm returns keywords and keyword phrases related to, but not containing the seed word.While brainstorming seed words we were able to discover the demand, supply, and profitability of our potential niches. We were also able to determine if our potential site concepts were too broad or too narrow.For a refresher on exact numbers to look for in a niche that is just right read or watch Day 3 of the Action Guide.


    HOMEWORK:

  • Complete the brainstorming process for three different site concepts.

  • Decide on your BEST Site Concept. Use Niche Choose It! if you have a hard time narrowing it down.

  • Review Day 3 of the Action Guide. 

    • Build An Online Web Business - Step 3

    We all arrived at our third class with our 3 Site Concept choices narrowed down to one, well some of us did. Others are still working on it and that's fine. It is important to get that choice right at the beginning... no rushing through Step 2 or Step 3. Slow and steady.

    After determining one Site Concept, it is important to remove the keywords for the other two from your MKL to make room for the all of the new and exciting keywords to be added through a lateral brainstorm. Also, before and after any brainstorm take time to purge any unneeded, unrelated, and unusable keywords. This will keep your MKL focused and tidy.

    A site blueprint is crucial to the planning and execution of your online business and at this week's class we walked step by step through just how to do that, introducing you to online and offline tools available to use to prepare that blueprint.

    We learned how to fit all keyword focused content pages, KFCPs, into a 3 tier structure and how to find extra keywords if needed to complete our site perfectly.


    HOMEWORK:

  • Be ready to state your site concept in a couple of words.

  • Also, be ready to state your site concept in one sentence.

  • Build your site concept blueprint using one of the offline or online tools provided at class this week. (To view step by step instructions on how to use the online blueprint, follow the Tier Structure video link close to the end of the Day 3 Action Guide video.)

  • Review Day 4 of the Action Guide.
