My daughter turns 11 on 11-11-11

I got clothes but want to do something special please help.

Reply: One idea is a charm bracelet. If funds are limited you could give her the bracelet with a number 11 charm or a birthstone charm. If you have more room to play with then adding 11 charms would be nice. Finding one charm to signify a special event or accomplishment for each year of life would make the bracelet a memory keeper. If she walked before she was one get her a shoe to represent year one. Did she learn to skate when she was 5? Add a skate charm. Did she say take guitar lessons when she was 8? Add a guitar charm.

I've also seen some awesome photo videos made of people's lives, highlighting a few memorable moments from every year. I know a made a funny album about the day my niece was born and all the crazy things that happened between her mother saying she was going into labor to her arrival in the world and not only has my niece read it over and over, but also all of my other nieces and nephews. Memories are really precious.

My grandaughter will be having her 11th birthday on 11/11/11....very special! Any great ideas?

Reply: The obvious idea would be to plan everything with a gold theme. Writing with gold ink on black construction paper and then rolling it up and tying it with gold ribbon is always elegant. Having a treasure hunt for gold can be made challenging for 11 year olds, etc., etc.

As something a little different, what I think would be especially fun would be to plan a party with 11 activities in 11 hours with each new activity starting every hour on the hour. The party could be a slumber party.

The party would begin at 1:00 pm so that the last organized activity would start at 11 pm for a perfect set of 11s.

The party could start at 1 pm with "golden drinks" and finger foods in a cozy area.

2 pm - Scavenger hunt that leads to a pot of gold that contains nail products.

3 pm - Manicures and/or pedicures with gold nail polish and jewels (optional).

4 pm - Drama games like charades using the titles of golden oldie songs or Golden Globe award winners.

5 pm - Dinner with golden foods like cheese pizza or chicken and fries or nachos (whatever fits your food tastes)

6 pm - Golden photo shoot where you have makeup, props and accessories ready for the girls to prep and pose for fun in the sun shots or award show diva shots.

Etc., etc., etc.

You might want to choose to have a movie start at 11 pm. If someone is skilled on the computer, it would even be awesome to start with a pre-show slideshow of the birthday girl's memorable moments.

Then the girls can chill out and watch the movie, talk, laugh, and fall asleep.

2 Year Old Golden Birthday Idea
by: Anonymous

This year on the 2nd of Dec 2011 my daughter will be 2. So this will be her golden birthday and I have no clue what to do for it. If someone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks!

It has been my experience that two year olds like to search for things and they like to pretend to do things they see their parents do.

The first thing that came to my mind would be to have them search for golden coins that they could then spend at a special birthday store you set up.

Hunting for the coins could be set up in a number of challenges for them, from digging for some in a small sandbox, to using a magnet on a string to pick up others, looking around a confined space for others, and playing little games to win some.

Of course they would need a little basket or drawstring bag to collect the coins in and it would need to be well supervised because kids love to put things in their mouths, but they would love it. Especially being able to go to the store later and buy prizes and treats with their very own coins.

The other options would be a Bunny Party where golden eggs would be the currency instead of coins.

Celebrate Golden on a Different Day
by: Anonymous

My son is turning 29 this July and I want to give him a big celebration. However, the 29th falls on a Wednesday. Do we really have to celebrate the Golden Birthday on the exact date?

Reply:

It's the date that the birthday falls on that makes it golden, not the day you celebrate it, so by all means celebrate it on the weekend when more people are free to attend.

colorful theme

My mother is celebrating her 50th birthday soon but just like you I wanted something different. I thought of having it an all white party wherein the celebrant will wear a colorful dress (not too over the top) and that will also signify how colorful her life is.

silly golden birthday
by: Anonymous

My daughter will have her Golden birthday this year and we (family and friends) decided to make it a little silly. We are going to get 24 of anything for her. She is older (24) so I don't think this would be a good idea for the little one's but as her Mother, concerned for her health, I will be getting her 24 condoms in a jar or 24 rolls of nickels in a jar. I'm still going back and forth on that one. Maybe both. She has a great sense of humor and will enjoy it.
