Host a Unique and Competitive
Singing Bee Party

Doesn't NBC's show make you want to plan your own Singing Bee Party? Let's face it, most people secretly or overtly want to prove that, given the chance, they could win a game show. So, why not give your friends and acquaintances the chance. Invite them over for a night of music, competition, and fun.

If you know any skilled musicians, have them provide the music for your party. If not, gather some CDs of popular songs AND be sure to have the lyrics for every song you plan to use on hand.

Not acquainted with the show or how to play the game? Check it out at Wikipedia.

Invitations:

If you have any old cds, write your invitations on them and stick a bee stiker or two on them. If you're handy with the computer, create a label with all the details of your party.

Food and Decor:

Set up a stage for guests to compete on. Make it colorful if you can. Also, set up the rest of your party area like a night club and shed most of the lighting on the stage area. Create a fun cocktail or mocktail bar and dress the server up in a bee costume if possible. Stir sticks with bees on them would be a nice touch. Finger foods and snacks would be optimal.

Activities:

  • Compete in several rounds of The Singing Bee so that everyone who wants a chance to play can have a chance.
  • Have a music trivia competition (there is music trivia available on the NBC site).
  • Play scrambled lyrics and have teams compete to put cards (with one word each) for various songs in the proper order first. You may even want to add a bogus word or two to throw them off.
  • Continue the fun by setting up a karaoke machine and a dance floor for later on in the evening.

    Prizes:

  • A stuffed or ceramic bee to serve as the Singing Bee trophy. Medals could also be awarded.
  • A mixed cd for the all around winner.

    Favors:

  • A small jar of honey.
  • Black and yellow jellybeans or other candy.
