KOA Camping

Camping in the Woods

A KOA camping birthday party event is so much fun!

For my friend's 11th birthday, she invited about 9 girls (ages 11, 12, and 13) for a night in a KOA campground cabin.

When everyone arrived, we claimed beds and bunks (although by the end all 10 girls were packed into 2 bunk beds!), and then heard the plans for the night.

Between then and 6:30 pm we talked and did one of the two crafts- decorating tote bags with sparkle cloth paints (someone actually stepped on mine! but it turned out to look really cool, so I suppose that all mistakes can turn out well).

Then we had dinner, where my friend's dad used the barbecue to cook hot dogs and hamburgers, and we also somehow had french fries (how do you get french fries while at a KOA in the middle of a farming community?), plus salad, chocolate, soda pop, carrot sticks, and plenty of ketchup and mayo.

Then, after the official pool hours, we got to go swimming (so we had it all to ourselves)! We played around in the water and had a fun time scaring ourselves with the dark figure in the hot tub area, you couldn't see who because of all the steam. It turned out to be an old chunky man... (not quite so scary as what we had expected!). All the cheap water toys her mom bought broke... but oh well.

After that, we buckled down for the night to chat, eat chocolate, drink leftover soda, and make the other craft (decorating picture frames).

Of COURSE we had the traditional story-telling-- about stalkers in the girls changing room, stalkers in dark streets, about how girls disappear and turn up years later dead, and stuff like that that is really silly but gets everyone jumpy. Once I finished telling an especially creepy one about a stalker who pretended to be people's parents, then my friend's mom knocked on the door, saying, 'Kat! It's your mom! Let me in!' We SCREAMED).

In the morning, after about an hour or two of sleep, we ate potato chips and laughed about the night. My friend's parents complained about how much noise we made.

Everyone had raging headaches the next day... and on Monday, we nearly fell asleep in class...
(-: Good times!
